I hope you had a relaxing and safe summer. I am thrilled that I am your child’s second grade teacher. This will be my fourteenth year teaching second grade. I completed my student teaching at the Burrell and then taught at the Igo for twelve years. I love being back at Burrell where my love of teaching began! It is my goal that we become partners in one of the most important jobs-helping your child reach his/her full potential.
This note includes pertinent information about our classroom and daily routines. Please read it over carefully and discuss it with your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
SNACK: ONE nutritious snack should be sent daily along with a beverage. Due to our very busy schedule, snack time will only be 10 minutes long so please plan accordingly. Please refrain from sending in a snack that contains nuts.
ATTENDANCE: If your child will be out sick, you must call the school to let us know. If your child is out for more than 3 days, I will send missed work home. Please try to call the office to let me know ahead of time so I can get the work ready and have it waiting in the office for you. If you will be going on vacation, I will have your child keep a journal of the trip as most of the activities we do will require your child to be present during class time in order to complete the assignments. Some missed work may be sent in a folder to be completed at home.
TRANSPORTATION: A note is always needed if there is a change in the routine of your child’s departure from school. If a note is not sent, it is school policy not to allow your child to visit a friend’s house or leave with another adult unless we have been properly notified.
SCHEDULE: This year we will be operating on a six day cycle. The specialist schedule is up on my website and will also be sent home.
COMMUNICATION: Please check your child’s bag daily. Also, please let me know if something happens at home that may affect your child in order to accommodate him or her as best as possible. Pending no technical difficulties, email is the best way to get in touch with me ([email protected]).
HOMEWORK: More information about homework will be coming. Students are expected to complete nightly reading and math fact practice.
Thank you for taking the time to read over this important information about our classroom. I hope that you found it informative. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your children this year! Warmly, Mrs. Sholes
